Bayelsa’s governor, Senator Douye Diri, said he has instructed his lawyers to appeal Monday’s ruling of the state election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, which nullified his election.
In a press release issued by his acting spoeksperson Daniel Alabrah, the governor said that he has implicit confidence in the judiciary and he would pursue all legal means to ensure that he retains the governorship.
Mr Diri said: “We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice.”
The governor asked all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his supporters not to panic and to continue to remain calm and law-abiding.
