A university professor has announced that he is the acting vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He said that he assumed the position immediately he was named by the university’s governing council.

Mr Theophilus Soyombo, a professor of sociology at the university’s Faculty of Social Sciences says he was appointed acting vice-chancellor on Thursday morning by the governing council of the university following the termination of the appointment of Oluwatoyin Ogundipe at its emergency meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday.

While Mr Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has rejected his removal by the Governing Council, the Pro-Chancellor Mr Olawale Babalakin and the university’s council insist that Mr Ogundipe’s removal followed due process as he had committed several infractions including the approval of funds above his statutory limits.
