Nigeria’s Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has extended the deadline for companies interested in bidding for marginal oil fields. The deadline was moved by a week.
The DPR had earlier announced that it would a bid for marginal oil fields, the first in twenty years, on June 1, 2020. The agency had initially set June 14 as the deadline for the application but it has now shifted the date to June 21.
While the DPR did not give a reason for the extension, oil industry insiders say that the extension might be connected to a slew of lawsuits filed in local courts by several companies seeking to stop the DPR from holding the bid.
