The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announed the the withdrawal of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank from Mr Kunle Ogunba, a leading insolvency and bankruptcy lawyer based in Lagos. The decision was announced in a statement signed by Mrs. Hadizatu Mustapha, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary to the LPPC.
Mr Ogunba was accused of professional misconduct in a petition filed by the Honeywell Group. The conglomerate accused Mr Ogunba of instituting a multiplicity of proceedings before different judges of the Federal High Court on the same case.
The committee ruled that Ogunba’s actions were deliberate efforts to abuse the court process and derail the course of justice. The allegations were investigated by the LPPC sub-committee and the LPPC, at its 129th Plenary Meeting, took the decision to withdraw the rank and attached privileges from Mr Ogunba.
