President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Ibrahim Gambari, a former UN Under Secretary-General, as his chief of staff. Gambari, a Kwara-born professor, will replace the late Abba Kyari, the longtime confidante of the president who died a few weeks ago from complications related to the COVID-19 virus.
Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation, announced the appointment of Gambari at the federal executive council meeting on Wednesday.
Professor Gambari has worked with President Buahri in the past, serving as his Minister of External Affairs from 1984 to 1985 when Buhari was the head of a military dictatorship.
Gambari also served as the Under Secretary-general of the United Nations and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Africa between 1999 and 2005.
