The Rivers state government has demolished two motels over an alleged breach of state regulations implemented to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The governor Nyesom Wike, a member of the opposition PDP, personally supervised the demolition of Edemete Hotel and Prodest Guest House on Sunday after he accused both establishments of contravening new orders issued by the state government to owners of hotels and other hospitality businesses.
He said that the Edemete and Prodest were a serious health risk as several people had tested positive for the virus in hotels across the state.
